Columbia County, OR – One person was killed and another was injured after two vehicles collided on Highway 30 in Columbia County Saturday afternoon.

The deadly accident happened at about 2:29 p.m. on April 26, 2025, on Highway 30 near milepost 62.

Oregon State Police said a gray Volkswagen Jetta, operated by Daren James McLeod, 48, of Clatskanie, was heading eastbound on Highway 30 when, for some reason, it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

The Volkswagen collided head-on with a black Ford F-350 pickup hauling a camping trailer, operated by 63-year-old Michael Todd Olson of Hammond.

McLeod was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Olson sustained minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

OSP said Highway 30 was shut down for about 4.5 hours as officers investigated the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
