Chatman, ILL – Four people were killed, including children, and several others were injured after a vehicle drove through an after-school camp in Chatham Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The deadly incident happened at about 3:20 p.m. on April 28, when a car crashed through the east side of the YNOT After School Camp, according to the Illinois State Police.

According to the Chatham Police Department, the car struck several people outside the building, then drove through the eastern portion of the building and exited the building on the western side

Three of the people who died were outside the building while the fourth victim was struck inside, Chatham Police Department said, adding that the victims were between the ages of 4 and 18.

Several people were transported to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. One of the patients was airlifted by helicopter, state police said.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The incident remains under investigation.
