Portland, OR. – A sheriff’s deputy was injured after a suspected drunk driver crashed into his patrol vehicle on Wednesday night, March 5, in Portland.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. on eastbound I-84 at Northeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard.

The deputy was conducting a traffic stop on eastbound I-84 and had not exited the marked patrol SUV when a driver in a 2018 Jeep Compass hit the deputy’s SUV from behind.

The impact sent the Jeep spinning back out into the freeway.

The deputy and the driver of the Jeep were taken to the hospital.
