Merritt Island, FL – A motorcycle collision left one person dead in Merritt Island on Friday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported at about 5:28 p.m. on April 4, in the area of South Tropical Trail and Cone Road.

According to the report, a white smart car was traveling west on Cone Road when it tried to make a left turn onto southbound South Tropical Trail and entered the path of a northbound 2022 Ducati Superbike.

The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old Ocala man, swerved off the roadway to avoid the car and slammed into the concrete wall.

The rider, whose name was not released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the authorities, the motorcyclist was wearing a seatbelt.

The FHP is investigating the accident.
