Two people injured in collision on Interstate 57 in Union County
Union County, IL. – Two people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened in Union County on Monday, February 10.
According to Illinois State Police, the accident happened around 8:35 a.m. on Interstate 57 near milepost 32, north of Illinois Route 146.
50-year-old Brandon Bierstedt from Anna, IL., was driving a 2011 Nissan Maxima northbound on I-57 when he crashed into the rear of a 2017 Nissan Murano driven by a 33-year-old woman from Anna, IL.
The impact of the collision pushed the Murano into the rear of a 2012 Nissan Altima which was then pushed into the back of a 2020 Freightliner semi-truck.
The driver of the Nissan Murano and her passenger, a 56-year-old woman from Anna, IL., were hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The drivers of the Nissan Altima and the semi-truck were unhurt.
Bierstedt was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
