Infant killed in multi-vehicle collision at Philo Road and Colorado Avenue in Urbana

Urbana, IL. – An infant was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Thursday night in Urbana.
According to the Urbana Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Philo Road and Colorado Avenue at approximately 5:52 p.m.
Kartila Brooks, of Champaign, had been driving a GMC Envoy eastbound on Colorado when he failed to stop at the intersection and clipped a northbound Subaru Outback that was turning west.
The GMC Envoy then struck a Chrysler Pacifica that was traveling north on Philo. The impact caused the GMC Envoy to flip over, slid and collide with a Chevy Equinox that was traveling west on Colorado.
A two-month-old in a car seat inside the Chrysler Pacifica was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital and later transferred to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The child later succumbed to injuries.
Brooks of Champaign was taken to Carle for injuries and issued two citations for disobeying a stop sign.
The infant’s mother and two siblings were also taken to Carle, where they were treated and released.
Additional information about the accident was not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
