Lakeland, FL – A driver was killed in a truck collision near Lakeland on Wednesday morning, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened on the Polk Parkway near milepost 11.5. on February 19.
The FHP reported that a single-unit box truck was traveling east on the Polk Parkway when it slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer that was slowing down ahead of the truck.
The box truck reportedly caught fire following the accident.
The driver of the box truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other driver, a 51-year-old man from Tampa, was not injured.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
