Tempe, AZ – A 13-year-old boy sustained serious injuries following a bicycle accident near McClintock Drive in Tempe Saturday morning, according to Tempe police.
The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. on February 8 near McClintock and Watson Drives, just north of Guadalupe Road.
According to the police, the boy was crossing the street on a bicycle at a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle operated by an elderly man
Police said the elderly man was driving on McClintock Drive when he ran the red light at the intersection with Watson Drive and struck the boy.
The teen was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The driver of the involved vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
McClintock Drive was shut down from Southshore Drive to Julie Drive, between Baseline and Guadalupe Roads as crews and investigators worked at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation and no additional details regarding the collision were provided.
