Man Killed in Sumter County Crash on Highway 44 near Industrial Drive

The 50-year-old Wildwood man driving the Honda Civic was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries

Sumter County, FL. – A 50-year-old Wildwood man was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon in Sumter County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 12:45 p.m. on Highway 44 near Industrial Drive.

A 40-year-old man from Elizabeth, NJ, was driving a single-unit truck eastbound on Highway 44 when he failed to slow down for stopped traffic and crashed into the rear of a Honda Civic driven by the Wildwood man.

The single-unit truck then continued forward and struck a Ford F150 and a Toyota RAV4 in a chain-reaction collision.

The 50-year-old Wildwood man driving the Honda Civic was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The drivers of the single-unit truck and the Ford F150 were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota RAV4 was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
