Driver Killed in Manatee County 2-Vehicle Crash at U.S. 301 and Colony Drive South

FHP said the deadly collision happened at about 6:36 a.m. on January 20 at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Colony Drive South.

Manatee County, FL – A 78-year-old man is dead and another person was injured after two vehicles collided in Manatee County early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the deadly collision happened at about 6:36 a.m. on January 20 at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Colony Drive South.

According to FHP, a 78-year-old Ellenton man was driving a pickup truck southbound on U.S. 301 in the left-turn lane to Colony Drive South

At the same time, a 23-year-old Ellenton man in a Hyundai Sonata sedan was traveling northbound in the outside lane of 301, approaching the intersection with Colony Drive South.

Authorities said the pickup truck driver tried to make a left-hand turn onto Colony Drive South and came directly into the path of the northbound.

The two vehicles collided and the pickup truck came to rest on the paved shoulder on 302 while the sedan stopped at a grassy shoulder.

The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sedan driver was taken to Blake Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
