Troopers said an 85 year old woman was killed and a 42 year old man was seriously injured in an accident early Monday morning on Interstate 95 near State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach.
New Smyrna Beach, FL.- One person was killed and another was seriously injured following an accident Monday morning in New Smyrna Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on July 13 on northbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 248.
Troopers said a Kia Soul and a Lincoln Continental were both traveling northbound when the Lincoln struck the rear of the Kia.
The impact caused the Kia to leave the roadway and enter the median, while the Lincoln traveled off the road onto the outside shoulder.
The driver of the Kia, an 85 year old woman from Daytona Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lincoln, a 42 year old man from Edgewater, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
The accident remains under investigation.
