87-Year-Old Moped Rider Killed in Accident near Rainbow Boulevard in Las Vegas

Police said an 87 year old Las Vegas man was killed following a moped accident Friday morning near Rainbow Boulevard and Mountains Edge Parkway in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas, NV.- An 87 year old man was killed following an accident involving a moped and a vehicle Friday morning in Las Vegas.

The accident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. on August 21 near Rainbow Boulevard and Mountains Edge Parkway.

Police said the man was riding a moped southbound on Rainbow Boulevard in a right travel lane when he veered left across the southbound lanes.

The moped rider crossed a raised median and entered the northbound lanes of Rainbow Boulevard.

Authorities said the man fell from the moped before striking the left side of a northbound Mazda driven by a Henderson woman.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and performed life saving measures on the injured moped rider.

The 87 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda reported injuries following the collision. She remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said the Mazda driver showed no signs of impairment.

Authorities said the moped rider’s death marked the 77th traffic related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2026.

The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
