Police said a 53 year old man suffered life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night near 28th Avenue and Peoria Avenue in north Phoenix.
Phoenix, AZ.- A 53 year old man was critically injured following a pedestrian accident Saturday night in north Phoenix.
The accident occurred around 11 p.m. on August 22 near 28th Avenue and Peoria Avenue.
According to the initial report, the man had been arguing with a woman before he ran into the street.
Witnesses were reportedly chasing the man when a vehicle traveling through the area struck him.
The driver initially left the scene following the collision but returned several minutes later.
Police said signs of impairment were reportedly observed when officers spoke with the driver.
The 53 year old pedestrian suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.
The initial collision remained under investigation when a second accident occurred in the area shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Authorities said a vehicle reportedly drove past barricades that had been placed across the roadway for the earlier investigation.
The vehicle continued until it collided with another vehicle near Cactus Road, causing one of the vehicles to catch fire.
The driver involved in the second accident was transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries. Authorities said impairment was also suspected in that collision.
Both accidents remain under investigation, with additional information pending.
