1 Killed, 3 Hurt in School Bus Accident on Illinois Route 9 near Elliott

Illinois State Police said one person was killed and three others were injured after a passenger car collided with a school softball team bus Saturday morning on Illinois Route 9 near Elliott.

Elliott, IL.- One person was killed and three others were injured following an accident involving a passenger vehicle and a school bus Saturday morning near Elliott.

The accident occurred around 8:38 a.m. on August 8 on Illinois Route 9 near Ford County 1000 East Road.

Troopers said a passenger car failed to yield and entered Illinois Route 9 in front of a Hoopeston Middle School softball team bus.

The bus, which was carrying 20 students, struck the passenger vehicle.

One occupant of the car was killed, while three others in the vehicle were injured.

All 20 students aboard the bus were transported to area hospitals as a precaution. Initial reports indicated none of the students suffered serious injuries.

Illinois Route 9 and 1000 East Road were closed for several hours while troopers investigated the accident and cleared the roadway.

The accident remains under investigation.
