Police said Thoennes’s vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

Richard Thoennes Dies After Vehicle Accident at Center Street and Oakland Avenue

Bloomington, IL. –  66-year-old Richard Thoennes was killed following a single-vehicle accident on Wednesday morning in Bloomington in McLean County, according to the Bloomington Fire Department.

The accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. July 9, at the Center Street and Oakland Avenue intersection.

Police said Thoennes’s vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

According to the McLean County Coroner office, Thoennes suffered from cardiovascular diseases which likely caused irregular heartbeat or a sudden fatal cardiac arrhythmia while he was driving.

An adult male passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries following the crash. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene and are helping with the investigation.
