Venice Man Killed in Accident on El Jobean Bridge in Charlotte County; Nathan Dion Arrested

Charlotte County, FL. – A man from Venice was killed in a collision involving a suspected DUI driver in Charlotte County on Wednesday, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, Nathan Anthony Dion, 45, was driving a 2023 Hyundai south on the El Jobean Bridge at a high rate of speed when he sideswiped a southbound 2015 Ford driven by a 64-year-old Port Charlotte woman.

The impact pushed the Ford into the rear of a 2016 Nissan driven by a 64-year-old Venice Man.

The Venice driver was killed in the accident.

Dion was arrested and booked into the Charlotte County Jail on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

The incident remained under investigation.

Charlotte County, Florida – At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle traffic collision on State Road 776 near Englewood Wednesday night.

The deadly collision happened along southbound SR-776 near the El Jobean Bridge.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said at least one person died in the collision.

It was not immediately clear if two or three vehicles were involved.

The southbound lanes of SR-776 at the bridge were shut down as the FHP officers worked at the scene.

 The bridge has since reopened and the incident remains under investigation.
