Head-on SUV Wreck on I-10 - AZ Dot Twitter feed

A fleeing SUV carrying eight people crossed the I-10 median near mile marker 214 by Eloy, Arizona in an attempt to evade Arizona troopers. After illegally entering eastbound traffic, the driver of the SUV crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer causing several people to be ejected.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that two people died at the scene, one died after hospital arrival, while the other ejected passengers are being treated for injuries at local area hospitals.

Furthermore, DPS spokesperson Brad Graves released a statement sharing that federal authorities would be looking into the accident that could have involved “attempted human smuggling activity.”

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the wreck was at milepost 213 on I-10 causing lane closures and traffic to be rerouted on the frontage road. Drivers can expect delays and are advised to seek an alternate route.
