October 16, 2018- City garbage trucks in Phoenix were involved in two separate vehicle accidents in the same day. It appears that the driver of the garbage truck was at fault in the first accident. The driver of a private vehicle was responsible for the second. Both accidents show differences and similarities.
The first accident occurred around 5 am. A garbage truck collided with a passenger car. Following the accident, the two roads connecting the intersection of the accident closed. Paramedics took the driver of the car to the hospital. Sadly, they later died of their injuries.
The second incident took place around 8:45 am that same day. In this case, a pickup truck slammed into the back of the garbage truck. This left the driver in serious but stable condition and the two city workers with minor injuries. Police believe that drugs or alcohol were somehow involved in this crash.
Whether a city worker goes about their day or someone heads home from work, roads can be dangerous. Remember to watch your blind spots and always signal. Use caution while operating any vehicle, especially the large ones. Stay aware and focused when you drink alcohol so that you do not drive under the influence.
