Cottonwood, AZ (July 11, 2018)- A vehicle collision left a Cottonwood man, Jesus Zazueta, dead. The collision occurred on State Route 260 Tuesday evening.
According to Public Safety Officer Quentin G. Mehr, Arizona Department of Public Safety, the deadly collision happened July 10th around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Western Drive and AZ-260.
The accident happened when a vehicle, later identified as a BMW, was being driven by a 20-year-old from Camp Verde at a high rate of speed. After the car struck the pedestrian, it went off the road into a ravine according to Mehr.
Unfortunately, Jesus Zazueta, 31, died at the scene. He was a Cottonwood local. The driver of the car was taken, via airlift, to the Flagstaff Medial Center, where he was admitted for treatment of injuries.
The road reopened at around 8:50 a.m. after being closed.
The collision remains under investigation, says Mehr.
