Zachary Balkin moved to Reno in 2021 to be closer to his family and joined Lerner and Rowe in 2022 to ensure that a National Law firm would be represented in Reno by an attorney who lived in the area, not an attorney that commuted from Las Vegas.
Mr. Balkin graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001 with a degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in business. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Golden Gate University Law School in 2007 with a Certificate of Specialization with Distinction in Litigation as well as several other academic awards.
Between 2008 and 2016, Mr. Balkin worked for Colorado’s 13th Judicial District Attorney’s office where he was promoted to Chief Deputy District Attorney, the second-highest non-elected position in the office. While with the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Balkin prosecuted more than 45 Jury trials, including homicides, sexual assaults, and crimes against at-risk adults and children. His trial experience gave him insight, knowledge and experience, not only in how to try and win a case, but also the importance of managing every aspect of a case to ensure the chances of winning at trial.
In 2016, Mr. Balkin joined the largest personal injury firm in Colorado, bringing years of trial experience and courtroom knowledge along with him. Mr. Balkin settled millions of dollars worth of claims for his firm’s clients in Colorado and was eventually asked to manage the firm of over 50 attorneys. In his time in Colorado, Mr. Balkin helped hundreds of clients navigate the difficult waters of a claim against an insurance company and ensured that his clients interests always came first. Mr. Balkin was also a part of several large successful class action lawsuits brought against companies such as Hewlett Packard and Wells Fargo.
Mr. Balkin brings a dearth of knowledge, trial experience, and compassion for his clients to Northern Nevada. Like all attorneys at Lerner and Rowe, Mr. Balkin prides himself on positive client experiences and holding insurance companies to the highest standards. His desire to ensure that his clients are treated fairly by insurance companies literally runs through his blood, as his father was also a personal injury attorney.
In his off time, Mr. Balkin can be found reading books to his son or snowboarding and hiking the mountains with his fiancé. He is licensed to practice law in the states of Nevada, Colorado, and Illinois as well as The Supreme Court of the United States, U.S. District Courts of Nevada and Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
