November 2, 2018- Earlier this month, Interstate 17 shut down near Phoenix because of reckless driving. Two drivers caused an otherwise avoidable crash with two more vehicles. I-17 closed between Glendale and Northern. After an investigation, the interstate reopened at about 9:30 am.
The incident occurred around 2:30 am. Two drivers in Mercedes began to race each other in what seems like a drag-racing scenario. At some point, one of these drivers slammed into a white compact car. The impact ejected the driver of the car. It also rolled and crushed into the freeway. The drag racers also hit a truck. One of the Mercedes drivers took off, while the other pulled over and ran off on foot.
According to authorities, paramedics took the driver of the white car to the hospital. Thankfully, the driver of the truck left unharmed. Both vehicles suffered little to considerable damage. However, police did not find the two drag racers.
Driving should absolutely never be reckless. Reckless drivers put their own lives at risk. Also, they put the lives of others in jeopardy. In this case, reckless drivers endangered more than just two people. Many drivers share the road. Your family and friends drive on these roads. Remember your responsibility to your community, and above all, drive safe.
