Sunday, September 2, 2018 – Multiple vehicles collided on I-17 northbound in the Rock Springs area.
Brent Fenton, a representative for the Daisy Mountain Fire Department, says that a total of 7 vehicles were involved in the accident, one of which was rolled over. A total of 13 people – 7 of which are children – suffered injuries. Because of this, 5 medical helicopters arrived and flew the injured to the hospital.
The accident occurred at milepost 242. Milepost 242 is, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, is just south of Black Canyon City. Under regular conditions, Rock Springs is around 45 minutes north of Phoenix.
ADOT tweeted alternate routes so people would not have to go through as much of a delay because of the Rock Springs pileup. Those alternate routes are “US 60 WB to Wickenburg, SR 89 NB to Prescott and SR 69 back to I-17.- SR 87 NB past Payson and then SR 260 WB to I-17.”
It is unclear exactly how the accident occurred. The accident occurred early in the afternoon, resulting in the closure of I-17 north. At approximately 2:30 pm, the I-17 northbound lanes reopened. However, there were significant delays, and the backup went as far as 10 miles back.
Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys wish for the speedy recovery of the injured individuals, and we also hope for the swift healing of those involved along with their friends and families.
