Tucson COVID-19 School Safety

Tucson COVID-19 School Safety

Nearly 50,000 students in Tucson have returned to school this week. While this is normally an exciting time of the year for youngsters, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it one of fear and uncertainty for many. To help the students in your family stay safe and informed, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys has prepared a Tucson COVID-19 school safety guide.

Don’t forget to attend Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys’ FREE backpack giveaways! Our community partners at GAP Ministries have coordinated for the 750 total backpacks stuffed with school supplies that our team assembled and donated to be distributed during our annual Drive-Thru Backpack Giveaways on August 15, 2020 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Ministerios Ammijezreel (4102 S. 12th Avenue, Tucson, 85714) AND Family Christian Center (6516 South Burcham Avenue, Tucson, 85756).

Remote Learning Safety

The Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) will offer remote learning for all students to start the 2020-2021 academic year. In-school learning will be offered when facilities are deemed to be safe. At that point, parents can choose to have their children attend school in person or continue with distance learning.

While your children are engaging in remote learning, there are a number of things that you can do to help them stay safe. They include:

  • Making sure that your children’s computer isn’t plugged into an overloaded outlet in order to avoid electrocution injuries
  • Checking to see that your children only use apps and software approved by their school
  • Teaching your children not to share identifying or sensitive information with people other than teachers or school officials
  • Using parental controls so that your children don’t view inappropriate content
  • Creating distinct spaces for schoolwork so that there’s a clear separation between home and school
  • Preparing your children’s lunch so that they can avoid burn injuries in the kitchen
  • Supervising your children as they do schoolwork to make sure that they’re focused
  • Interacting with your children more frequently to compensate for the lack of social interaction that comes with school

Distance learning will be unusual to many children and they’ll need guidance to get through this atypical time. For more tips on how to make Tucson remote learning successful, check out Darkness to Light’s online learning safety guide.

Preparing for Tucson COVID-19 School Reopenings

When school facilities reopen, many people will be unaccustomed to commuting to and from school. This includes children that walk or bike to school, as well as parents that drive their kids to school. It’s vital to drive safely near school zones in order to avoid car accidents. Parents need to go over traffic rules and check their kids’ safety gear to prevent bicycle accidents and pedestrian accidents.

The latest coronavirus strain has added new elements to Tucson COVID-19 school safety. To help prevent the spread of the virus, it’s important for your children to wear masks and clean their hands frequently. Be sure to stock up on masks and hand sanitizer for your kids. While schools should be providing personal protective equipment, shortages may occur and it’s important to plan ahead.
