Over the course of his multi-state career in risk management, insurance, and personal injury law, Jeffrey Trespel has helped over ten thousand injury victims. He has delivered hundreds of millions of dollars in claim resolutions to folks and families wronged by the carelessness of others. Jeffrey frequently represents surviving family members when a loved one is the victim of a wrongful death. He routinely helps injured victims with claims after they are injured in automobile and motorcycle accidents, injured as pedestrians, mauled by dogs, and when they are injured due to the negligence of premises owners. His experience in dealing with insurance companies is invaluable when pursuing them for bad faith failures to timely pay their insureds what is owed.
Jeffrey’s legal career is devoted to righting interpersonal and corporate wrongs that cause bodily injuries and damages. The unique challenges associated with this area of law motivate him to represent innocent victims during some of the most difficult times in their lives. He is truly honored to have the opportunity to represent his clients. He appreciates the trust that is placed in him and his team during these emotional times.
Prior to joining Lerner and Rowe, P.C., Jeffrey started his professional career in accounting with a major publishing company. He found greater opportunity and satisfaction helping injury victims while moving up the corporate ladder at three large insurance companies. Always entrepreneurial, he started an independent claim adjusting bureau that handled a variety of matters in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Nevada, with a client list that included Lloyds of London.
Before and during law school, he expanded his business to include a consulting firm that developed and managed personal injury departments for attorneys who primarily practiced in related fields like family law and bankruptcy. After law school, he clerked for a federal bankruptcy judge. Then, he opened his own law firm in Florida, before re-entering the world of insurance.
It soon became apparent that the insurance companies had abandoned any pretense of helping injured victims. Having learned from the inside the insurance companies’ practices, procedures, and weaknesses, he put his full focus and energy into representing those injured by the negligence of others. After more than 16 years as a personal injury lawyer in Albuquerque, he is convinced that the Lerner and Rowe “client first” model is the key to helping folks who are hurt through no fault of their own.
Education and Personal History
Born in The Bronx, NY and raised on Long Island, Jeffrey enjoyed summers at the Fire Island Beaches and on the ballfields, and winters playing street hockey and hoops. He began playing guitars and keyboards in pre-school, and was a key member of several rock bands.
He attended the University of Buffalo (SUNY) on an academic and music scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. As Paul Simon sings in the iconic song, The Boxer, “the New York City winters were a-bleeding” him, and he followed his family down to South Florida. He graduated from the Florida State University College of Law with honors, and passed the Florida bar exam. Having always enjoyed the desert southwest, he took and passed the New Mexico bar exam, and moved to Albuquerque in 2003. Beyond the New Mexico and Florida state bar licensures, he has been admitted to practice in the Federal Courts in Florida, New Mexico, and Colorado.
In addition to practicing law, Jeffrey currently plays in two Grateful Dead tribute bands, and an original music project, and he performs studio work for various bands and solo artists around town. While his competitive contact sports days are likely over, he still enjoys personal fitness and hiking, and gardening in the high desert. Although travel is currently at a lull, he has toured extensively in Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Caribbean, England, France, Andorra, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Israel, the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador, and New Zealand.
Jeffrey Trespel strives to live his life by providing light to others, and turning that light into positive outcomes. As the Grateful Dead sing in Scarlet Begonias, “once in a while, you get shown the light, in the strangest of places, if you look at it right.” Creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to think outside the box translate to good results for his clients.
The offices of Lerner and Rowe and their attorneys believe in respecting their customers:
“A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.” – Favorite Quote of Lerner and Rowe –
